The age of the “policeman’s beard” is upon us.
Meaning done weaning, has settled,
refined to a mean of code
as dead as burgers.

A terminal mark of the beast; an iceberg made of sugar!

Evolution is only “half constructed” of
truthy or falsy states (a kind of ketameaning).
The new kid at school said he wasn’t real
but used to be a toy from a happy meal.

Were the wattles around the Hameau de la Reine, made of pizza?
No, but probably.
* * *
Leaning on a cleanish dumpster
that as yet, has not felt flame,
an 8 bit black bird flies across the screen of the world,
cawing: “Ad hoc! Ad hoc!”

“I stood before the altar, my hands upon it, and gathered myself together. There are times in magic, at the start of an operation, when cold fear takes me by the heart at the responsibility I am incurring. I am deliberately, guided by no other light than that of my human judgment, setting machinery in motion that will manipulate cosmic forces. I do not mind when I alone am concerned, but when another person comes into it, it is another matter. I spend long hours in meditation; I count time as nothing; I wait and watch for the signs to come along and will not move without them. Finally, feeling as if I were going to my own execution, I lay my hand on the invisible lever and engage the gears, and always, as I do so, I say the words of the Eastern pledge; I am thy sacrifice.”

62. Preponderance of the Small
These first few lines are the general aphoristic returns for the week. They are raw and uninterpreted; there to use how you’d like. (The specific readings follow.)
- Large endeavors have varied contributions; they need acknowledgement, support and encouragement to remain healthy.
- Change and novelty are endemic to this world and thus to humanity, but humans, at scale, are highly predictable.
- Engage life’s cycles, then adjust yourself in advance, to the demands of the different times.
- Premature offense brings evil results.
- We must understand the demands of the time (change) in order to find the necessary offset for its deficiencies and damages.
- Satisfy Desire with many small acquiescences — do whatever you can to avoid big indulgences and their subsequent big damages.

From “M.S.”: How to develop satisfaction with what is at hand, when constantly being confronted with Desire for more, or better, or a less disappointing situation. Desire it seems needs to be managed. We sincerely understand that beauty (and the like) is a play with distances and not arrivals, but still Desire has a way of undermining adequate satisfactions. As a further note, we kinda despise the word “balance” but know that it is at least somewhat forthcoming in the answer — our distaste comes from a feeling that knee-jerk invocations of “balance” obfuscate other relevant scenarios like tension.
Seek the support of friends — be open about your needs and intentions. It is imperative to be able to air out and compare mental difficulties. Then, REALLY take care of those relationships.
Also, it is hard to accept, but understand that your behavior/emotions are rather predictable. Get ahead of what you know is coming.
If you encounter a difficulty but you are at a low ebb of personal self control, just try to satisfy the desires with many small acquiescences — do whatever you can to avoid big indulgences and subsequent damages. Hopefully a rhythm of mastery emerges.
Ultimately, manage your Desire by intelligently forecasting your own behavior.

Complete Reading
This week we pulled the Three of Pentacles. Large projects require various skills, abilities that are not housed in a single person. Consider this period, that the substantial endeavors of which you are a part, have varied contributions that need your acknowledgement, support and encouragement — and vice-versa.
Our first hexagram this week is #49, Revolution (Molting). “In the course of the year a combat takes place between the forces of light and the forces of darkness, eventuating in the revolution of the seasons. A person can master these changes by noting their regularity and marking off the passage of time accordingly. In this way order and clarity appear in the apparently chaotic changes of the seasons, so one is able to adjust themself in advance to the demands of the different times.” Change and novelty are endemic to this world and thus to humanity, but humans, at scale, are highly predictable. However, generally, we don’t like to think of ourselves in this way; we desire to feel freewheeling and improvisational. As well, relatively rare and dangerous is the person who genuinely/actually likes pain and violence — avoid murderous pitilessness at (almost) all cost.
There were two changes this week, of which the specific note is: premature offense brings evil results.
Our second hexagram, the one that suggests how best to meet the challenges (or the changes) is #62, Preponderance of the Small. Power (like momentum) is necessary to move great things. If this type of power is not present big things won’t move — and therefore, it is necessary to adjust to the appropriate expectation and action. “We must understand the demands of the time in order to find the necessary offset for its deficiencies and damages. In any event we must not count on great success, since the requisite strength is lacking. In this lies the importance of the message that one should not strive after lofty things but hold to lowly things... The superior person must always fix their eyes more closely and more directly on duty than the ordinary person, even though this might make their behavior seem petty to the outside world. They are exceptionally conscientious in their actions... In all their personal expenditures they are extremely simple and unpretentious.”
